I'm doing a research paper on Detroit graffiti and I was wondering if anyone new of any creditable articles or resources that could help me out. I could really use some more information on the Detroit TRDLs. The Metro Times said Toney "Monkey" Smith was making a documentary about the TRDLs but I couldn't find any more info online.

Does anyone know where you can buy spray can caps in the Detroit area. I heard Purple Haze carried them but that was a while ago...

hey hey, new to the community... i'm a highschool senior from roeper in birmingham and currently taking AP art history. our class went on a field trip to the Detroit Institute of Arts towards the end of november and had this assignment:

"select any work of art that intrigues you. gather information on the selected work and give your personal response to the work."

immediately felt a connection with:

Violiniste et jeune femme tenant un cahier de musique, Edgar Degas, (70.167) c. 1871

coincidentally, a month later while doing my research i discovered that "violinist and young woman holding a book of music" was voted "greatest hit of the month" for december 2005 at the DIA. art historians spoke about violinist to a group of interested people in one of the museums galleries, and after many google searches in hopes of finding any critiques or analyses on this piece, i'd discovered that not only did i miss a great opportunity but that i couldn't find any discussions of it anywhere on the world wide web.

it would be a really really slim chance for anyone in this community to have been present at said seminar, but any insights from anyone who knows anything at all about the content of this painting would be wonderful, thanks in advance for your help!

Just a little up date....

Now that the majority of the "Dodge the Lodge" crap is over, I finally got to check and see if my turtles were still in place. Sadly I have lost my family of turtles. :( It sadden's me. Damn...

But on a great note...
I was driving to the lovely city of Menominee MI, which is on the border of Wisconsin and sits on Green Bay for a youth group (I'm and adult leader) weekend. This is a 10+ hour drive. I drove past a large, and I mean large train yard. I woke up just long enough to focus on them and see a turtle. I scream for my dad to stop and have him pull over. He didn't understand why at the time I got so excited. I told him and he rolled his eyes. I jumped out of the truck and hopped over a ditch. Because of the rain, I slipped and dropped my camera. I cried. Well not really, but I was pretty pissed off. The girls I was with didn't understand what a turtle meant. They are only between the ages of 12-15. But my dad did. It was what I needed to see to make through the weekend far far away from the city I love so very much...

So thank you again....

I pass two TURTL's on the way home from work every Saturday and Sunday. I take the Lodge north to 94 west and if you look to your left on the ramp you will see one...

And the other is on your right hand side on 94 just before 96...

They make me smile and not hate my job so much.

It makes me sad to think that I won't see them for a while...

Damn construction...

first time poster, long time trtl lover.

even though he confessed...i've actually heard that trtl was created/sprayed by 3 or 4 other people...hence the different spellings, different looking turtles etc. don't know if this is true or not...and supposedly the guy who confessed is also responsible for "dead krackhead" but i also don't know if this is true.

anyway, my favorite turtle is on west warren and 16th, under a viadock. sorry i don't have a picture of it. i'll try to get one. it's 2 trtls colliding in a sea of stars.

turtl sighting
Well - I see that someone had the right idea when starting this community. The Turtle thang rules. I'm curious how many people know about graphitti, Turtl, Sehv or any other dope writers from the D or the Midwest. Either way here is one of my favorites... Its from Southbound Lodge by the Motor City Casino.

I would like to see more people post Turtls... they ARE everywhere - get your cameras - digital and film...go to work...
